第一次聽到這首歌時，被副歌溫柔又帶點滄桑的合聲所吸引（跟The Man Who Can't Be Moved 一樣，可以說是他們的招牌呢XD），輕快的節奏藍調，身為手創迷應該再熟悉不過了。
然而，這首歌真正讓我驚豔的，是它的歌詞以及背後的涵義。 If You Ever Come Back 發行於2011年，收錄在 The Script 的第二張專輯 " Science ＆ Faith "。當時 The Script 剛結束第一張專輯 " The Script " 的世界巡迴演唱 ，回到家鄉愛爾蘭的都柏林，他們發現這座城市的人民普遍貧窮，毒品的問題持續存在，於是有了創作靈感，藉由音樂來訴說人民的心聲，並帶給他們希望，前後孕育出 For The First Time 與 If You Ever Come Back兩首作品。

MV中，一位離家的女兒帶著沉重的行李與黑眼圈搭上了火車。她回想一切發生的經過，匆匆忙忙的離家，與一路上餐風露宿的生活；而另一頭，晚餐已經準備好了，她的母親望向窗外卻依然沒看見女兒的身影。回過神來，一名臉色慘淡的女子與穿著風衣外套的男子陸續上了車，他們避開了彼此的視線，希望沒有人看見自己現在的模樣。女主角看著他們的身影，再度回想起這些日子過得多麼悲慘。她受夠了這一切，不想再藉著毒品來麻痺心靈，希望一切都來得及倒轉。最後，他們三人來到了治療中心，找到人生的出口。

也許剛開始聽 The Script 的作品，多半是被 " Hall Of Fame " 或 " Superheroes " 這種震撼又激勵人心的歌曲所吸引，但慢慢了解這個樂團之後，會更能夠品味像" If You Ever Come Back " 這類作品帶來的餘韻，它也許不是那麼澎拜，但是會讓你在無意間想起這段旋律與感觸。
